Swimming
At Arbourthorne Community Primary School, children in Year 2 and Year 4 are provided with free swimming lessons. These take place at Springs leisure centre or Ponds Forge.
Pupils are taught to:
-
swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres ( one length of the pool)
-
use a range of strokes effectively such as front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
-
perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
What should my child wear for swimming?
- If your child is taking part in swimming lessons they will need to wear appropriate swimwear that makes them feel confident and comfortable ( a swimming costume or swim shorts).
- If pupils are wearing long sleeve tops and leggings then these must be lightweight and swim wear i.e. costume must be worn underneath or on top.
- Hair must be tied back and no jewellery should be worn on the day.
- Children should bring s a water bottle in order to keep hydrated after exercise.
