SSELP Y6 / Y12 Mentoring Project
This project gives Year 6 pupils support to develop their understanding of secondary school,
higher education, employment and careers.
The Y6s taking part have begun to think about their own plans for the future through a range of activities completed with their mentor. This project culminates in a presentation given by each Y6 and their mentor at Sheffield Hallam University for peers, parents and teachers. The project runs from January to June and this is the third year Y6 pupils from our school have taken part. Y6 pupils meet twice per half term with their mentor - supported by a Y6 member of staff from our team. Activities include relationship and team building, research and questionnaires that support opening up possible future career opportunities, a visit to All Saints Catholic High School and the preparation for public speaking.
This project impacts on pupils self-belief and confidence to articulate their hopes and plans for the future. Both their aims for the near future and those aspirations for the years to come.
Y6 pupils who applied to have the support of a mentor have been matched with Y12 pupils from All Saint's Secondary School.
Mentors:
- Act as a role model and example for Y6 pupils.
- Guide the Y6 pupil to think about their future.
- Support the activities in the programmed sessions.
