Learning at home
At Arbourthorne Community Primary School, we view home learning as being a collaborative, supported or independent task undertaken outside of curriculum time which reinforces, extends or enriches current learning.
The purpose of home learning at Arbourthorne Community Primary School is to provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their child’s learning. It enables children to practice and consolidate skills and aims to broaden the context of learning and provide enrichment and extension. It aims to enable children to take responsibility for their own learning, to become independent learners and to develop perseverance.
Every pupil has a 'Google Classroom' account via which home learning can be shared. 'Home Learning' is set by class teachers each week and will include maths, spelling and a task linked to curriculum learning - a homework menu is offered so that pupils have a choice in which type of activity they would like to complete.
Pupils are positively encouraged to read at home - book sharing and reading for pleasure, and from a book linked to their current reading level.
We always feel so impressed when families take time to support their child's learning at home!
